Biennale Danza 2027 Opens Calls for Two New Choreographies

On September 15, 2026, the Biennale di Venezia opened both national and international calls for submissions of two new, original choreographies. These works are set to premiere at the 21st International Festival of Contemporary Dance, Biennale Danza 2027, scheduled from July 15 to 31, 2027. The deadline for applications is October 20, 2026.

The selection of the two choreographies will be overseen by Wayne McGregor, Artistic Director of the Dance Sector at the Biennale. The foundation will provide support for the realization of the new works, including artistic fees, travel, accommodation, and technical requirements necessary for their production and presentation.

This initiative continues Biennale Danza’s commitment, now in its sixth consecutive year, to supporting new generations of dance artists and companies in Italy and internationally. In previous years, the festival has presented works such as "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by the British duo Bullyache, "Sisifo felice" by Philippe Kratz and Pablo Girolami with Nuovo Balletto di Toscana, "Just Between Me and Jesus" by New Zealander Oli Mathiesen, and "Invisible" by Andrea Salustri.

The open calls reflect Biennale Danza’s ongoing support for innovation and international exchange in contemporary dance.
