Biography

Sandro Botticelli was born in 1445 in Florence, where he lived his entire life and died in 1510. He is considered an outstanding master of the early Italian Renaissance and a representative of the Florentine school of painting during the Quattrocento period, which developed under the patronage of the Medici family. In his works, Botticelli developed a refined and elegant style offering a new model of ideal beauty and reflecting the tastes of the aristocratic society of his time. His work shows the influence of Andrea Verrocchio and the brothers Antonio and Piero del Pollaiuolo. Among the most famous paintings by the artist are Primavera, The Birth of Venus, and Venus and Mars, which brought him worldwide recognition. Sandro Botticelli worked in genres including historical painting, portraiture, religious and mythological subjects, as well as allegories. Besides being a painter, he was also a draftsman, architectural designer, and fresco artist. His cultural affiliation is Italy, and his main creative directions form the Florentine school of painting and the early Renaissance.
