Biography
In 2011 two friends, Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, asked May Hong to model clothes for their newly founded label. She agreed, and that was the start of her modelling career.
She was born in Seoul on 24 October; the year of her birth is given as either 1988 or 1995. At six she was brought to the United States. She grew up in Flushing, in the borough of Queens in New York City. She spent her school years at Fiorello LaGuardia High School, the New York public high school for the arts, where she studied art and became interested in printmaking. She then went to the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and received a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking there, reportedly in 2010. After graduating Hong moved to Brooklyn and managed a photography studio. Eckhaus Latta's shows became steady work for her: she walked in almost all of their runway shows. Gradually her circle of clients widened. She modelled for Adidas, Marni, Gucci, Telfar and Marc Jacobs, took part in New York Fashion Week, and later began appearing in commercials.
Her acting ran in parallel. She appeared in the television series “Broad City”, “High Maintenance”, “New Amsterdam” and “Hacks”, and in the film “Adam”. Her first lead role was Margot Park in Netflix's revival series “Tales of the City” (2019).
In 2025 Hong voiced the character Mira in Netflix's animated film “KPop Demon Hunters”. By July 2025 the film had become the platform's most-watched animated movie, and by August it had reached 236 million views and overtaken “Red Notice” (2021) as the most-watched film on the service.
Hong lives in Brooklyn.
