John Singer Sargent

Biography

John Singer Sargent was born on January 12, 1856, in Florence. He was an American artist, portraitist, and art figure associated with Impressionism. Sargent achieved great success in portrait painting and landscapes, becoming one of the most successful artists of the Belle Époque era. Notable works include Portrait of Madame X, The Wyndham Sisters: Lady Elcho, Mrs. Adeane, and Mrs. Tennant, The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit, Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose, El Jaleo, The Misses Vickers, among others. His artistic activity spanned several genres including portraits and landscapes. In addition, Sargent worked as an architectural draftsman and architect. He held American and Italian citizenship (USA, Kingdom of Italy). John Singer Sargent died on April 15, 1925, in London.
