Jean-Honoré Fragonard

Biography

Jean-Honoré Fragonard was born on April 5, 1732, in Grasse, France. He became one of the leading and most versatile artists of the second half of the 18th century, working in the styles of Rococo and early Neoclassicism. Fragonard practiced painting, drawing, and engraving, producing works in the genres of pastoral landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, and the so-called 'gallant scenes.' During his career, he was an associate member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. Among his notable works are "The Swing," "The Bolt," and "The Young Reader." Jean-Honoré Fragonard died on August 22, 1806, in Paris, in the former 2nd arrondissement. He lived and worked in the Kingdom of France, leaving a significant contribution to the art of the Rococo era.
