Ivan Shishkin
Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin (1831–1898) was a Russian painter and graphic artist, renowned for his landscape paintings of the post-reform era. Born in Yelabuga and died in Saint Petersburg, he was an academician and professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts and headed the landscape workshop at the Higher Art School. He was a founding member of the Society of Wanderers.
Biography
Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin was born on January 13, 1831, in the city of Yelabuga in the Russian Empire. He became a prominent Russian painter, graphic artist, and figure in the visual arts, specializing in landscape genre and associated with the realism movement. Shishkin is considered one of the most famous landscape painters of the post-reform era. Among his best-known works is the iconic painting "Morning in a Pine Forest." In his professional career, he was an academician, professor, and full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Between 1894 and 1895, Ivan Ivanovich held the position of professor and head of the landscape workshop at the Higher Art School. He was also one of the founding members of the Society of Wanderers. Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin passed away on March 8, 1898, in Saint Petersburg, leaving a significant mark in the history of Russian art and culture of the Russian Empire.
