Biography

Hieronymus Bosch, also known as Jeroen Anthonissen van Aken, was born in 1450 in 's-Hertogenbosch, located in the Northern Netherlands. Throughout his life, he became one of the leading masters of the Northern Renaissance and a proponent of Early Netherlandish painting. Bosch worked in the genres of genre scenes, religious and historical paintings, and also created portraits and allegories. His creative legacy includes approximately ten paintings and twelve drawings. Some of the artist's most famous works include 'The Garden of Earthly Delights', 'The Ship of Fools', 'The Magician', 'The Haywain', 'The Blessed and the Damned', 'Ecce Homo', 'The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things', 'The Last Judgment', and 'The Marriage Feast at Cana'. During his lifetime, he was inducted as a member of the Brotherhood of Our Lady. Posthumously, a Bosch Creativity Center was opened in his hometown of 's-Hertogenbosch, where copies of all his works are displayed. Professionally, Hieronymus Bosch was a painter, draftsman, and architectural draftsman. Hieronymus Bosch died in 1516.
