Gustav Klimt

Biography

Gustav Klimt was born on July 14, 1862, in Baumgarten. He was an Austrian painter and decorator, a prominent representative of Viennese Art Nouveau, and one of the founders of the Vienna Secession as well as a participant in the Vienna Workshops. Klimt was a painter and graphic artist, a master of architectural interior decoration. In his creative work, he combined styles such as symbolism and Art Nouveau. He worked in a variety of genres, including portraiture, landscape, historical painting, genre scenes, and religious art. Klimt was also known for his sketches and works as an ex-libris designer, draughtsman, designer, and architectural draftsman. Among his most famous works are "The Kiss," "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I," "Beethoven Frieze," "Danaë," and "Judith and Holofernes," among others. Gustav Klimt died on February 6, 1918, at the Old General Hospital in Vienna. He represents the cultural traditions of the Austrian Empire, Cisleithania, and Austria.
