Biography

Édouard Manet was born on January 23, 1832, in the former 10th arrondissement of Paris, France. He was a French painter and graphic artist who became one of the founders of Impressionism. Throughout his career, Manet worked across various genres including portraiture, genre painting, still life, landscape, and religious subjects. Beyond his paintings, he was also a draftsman, illustrator, lithographer, and architectural draftsman, contributing to the visual arts and the arts more broadly. Among his notable works are "The Luncheon on the Grass," "Olympia," "The Bar at the Folies-Bergère," "The Balcony," "Music in the Tuileries," "The Fifer," "The Execution of Emperor Maximilian," and "The Railway." Édouard Manet passed away on April 30, 1883, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.
