Biography

Dieric Bouts was born in 1415 in Haarlem. He worked as a painter and draftsman during the Northern Renaissance within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Duchy of Burgundy. Bouts belonged to the early Netherlandish painting movement. His work focused mainly on religious paintings and portraits. Along with Petrus Christus and Hugo van der Goes, he was part of a generation of artists influenced by the legacy of Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden. Among his well-known works are "The Last Supper", "Christ in the House of Simon", "The Entombment", "Madonna Lactans", and "The Annunciation". Dieric Bouts died on May 6, 1475, in Leuven.
