Camille Pissarro

Biography

Camille Jacob Pissarro was born on July 10, 1830, in Charlotte Amalie. He was a French and nominally Danish artist of Jewish origin. Pissarro was one of the earliest and most consistent representatives of Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism. During his career, he was the only artist to participate in all eight group Impressionist exhibitions held from 1874 to 1886. His creative work predominantly included landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and figure painting. Among his notable works are "Rue Saint-Honoré in the Afternoon, Effect of Rain" (1897), "The Pont Boieldieu in Rouen on a Rainy Day," "Banks of the Oise at Pontoise," and "The Red Roofs, Côte Saint-Denis at Pontoise, Winter Effect." Besides being a painter, he also worked as a pastelist, lithographer, graphic artist, engraver, and architectural draftsman. Camille Jacob Pissarro died on November 13, 1903, in Paris.
