Atvara
Atvara (real name Liene Stūrmane) was born in Liepāja and studied conducting and jazz singing, but came to a solo career only in 2024, after talent shows, work as an English teacher and a job in marketing. Her first single, “Pie manis tveries”, ended up in a television series, in 2025 she gave more than twenty concerts across Latvia, and in February 2026 she won the Supernova selection and went to Eurovision in Vienna.
Biography
In 2017, at the audition for the Latvian X Faktors, Liene Stūrmane sang Adele’s “One and Only” and Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing”. The judges liked it, but she did not advance.
She was born on 2 April 1993 in Liepāja. From early childhood she was drawn to singing, and her mother enrolled her in a music school. Then came the Emīls Melngailis Secondary School in her hometown, where Liene studied conducting, and after that the Jāzeps Mediņš Secondary School in Riga, from which she graduated with a specialization in jazz and pop singing. Television fame came before her solo career: in 2012–2013 she took part in the talent shows Dziedošās ģimenes and Koru kari. After the setback at X Faktors she moved into other professions. For some time she taught English, and from 2019 she worked in marketing and with companies in the digital content sector, among them the Latvian radio station Star FM. At the same time she wrote songs: her compositions were heard in the Supernova selection as early as 2020 and 2024, that is, before she herself appeared on that stage. Her stage name, Atvara, is her father’s surname. She has said that she wanted to link the word with positive associations rather than the unpleasant ones it had before.
Her solo debut came in June 2024: the single “Pie manis tveries” reached number nine on the Latvian chart of most-streamed singles, gathered more than two million views on TikTok, and users featured it in their videos more than a thousand times. The song later became one of the title songs of the Latvian television series Nelūgtie viesi. In February 2025 Atvara recorded the song “Vai drīkst kāpt dziļāk” with Intars Busulis, and in March, together with Mārtiņš Spuris, she hosted the GAMMA music awards ceremony for the first time.
In summer 2025 she set out on her first tour: more than twenty solo concerts across Latvia, all sold out. On 8 August she released the single “Dzīve mūs mētā”, which received frequent radio play. It was among the fifteen finalists of the Muzikālā banka award and finished tenth in the final ranking. The song appeared on her debut studio album, Vol.1 Vai dzirdi, kā brūces dzīst.
On 20 November 2025 it was announced that Atvara would take part in the eleventh season of Supernova, the Latvian selection for Eurovision, with the song “Ēnā”. She advanced from the second semi-final to the final and won on 14 February 2026, in both the audience vote and the jury vote. This gave her the right to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna. She performed in the second semi-final, finished 13th and did not reach the final.
