Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi was born on January 15, 1841, in the Mariupol district. Of Pryazov Greek descent, he dedicated his life to painting, specializing in landscapes. Kuindzhi worked in Saint Petersburg and Crimea, where he created a significant portion of his artworks. During his creative career, he led the circle of “Russian luminists,” an association of artists focused on special lighting and light effects in painting. In addition to his artistic activities, Kuindzhi taught at a university and took an active part in public life. His style is associated with the realist movement that developed in the Russian Empire. Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi passed away on July 21, 1910, in Saint Petersburg.
