Aelbert Cuyp

Biography

Aelbert Jacobs Cuyp was a painter, draftsman, and engraver from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, born on October 20, 1620, in the city of Dordrecht. He is recognized as a master of etching and a creator in the genres of landscape, animal scenes, portraiture, still life, and graphic arts. Cuyp is considered a representative of the Dutch Golden Age of painting. In his works, he combined the skills of a graphic artist, draftsman, and landscape painter. Aelbert was the son of portrait painter Jacob Gerrits Cuyp. His contribution to art is noted by the fact that an old street market in Amsterdam bears his name. The artist died on November 15, 1691, in his hometown of Dordrecht.
