Zehra Doğan

Zehra Doğan is a Kurdish journalist, artist, and writer from Turkey. Born in 1989 in Diyarbakır, she founded and edited the Kurdish women’s news agency Jinha. In 2017, she was sentenced to nearly three years in prison on charges related to terrorism propaganda.

Biography

Zehra Doğan was born in 1989 in Diyarbakır, Turkey. She is a Kurdish journalist, artist, and writer. Doğan founded and served as editor of the Kurdish news agency Jinha, which employed exclusively women. In 2017, she was sentenced to two years, nine months, and twenty-two days in prison on charges of ‘‘propaganda of terrorism.’’ The charges were based on her published news reports, social media posts, and a painting she created, which depicted the consequences of clashes between Turkish military forces and Kurdistan Workers' Party militants in the city of Nusaybin.
