Biography

Zao Wou-Ki was born on February 1, 1920, in Beijing. He was an artist and cultural figure of Chinese origin who also held French citizenship. Over the course of his life, Zao Wou-Ki worked in various mediums including painting, graphics, drawing, lithography, and postage stamp design. His artistic activity was connected with the New Paris School movement. Throughout his life, he maintained cultural and national ties with China, the Republic of China (Taiwan), and France. He passed away on April 9, 2013, in Nyon, Switzerland. A notable period in his creative work includes the months from April to September 1987. His contributions are recognized in painting, graphic arts, and book art.
