Zahari Zograf
Zahari Zograf (1810–1853) was a Bulgarian painter and iconographer, a prominent figure of the Bulgarian National Revival. Born and died in Samokov, he is known for his icons and frescoes and is considered a founder of Bulgarian secular painting.
Biography
Zahari Hristov Dimitrov, known as Zahari Zograf, was born on October 8, 1810, in the town of Samokov, Bulgaria. He was an outstanding painter and iconographer, one of the leading figures of the Bulgarian National Revival. His work includes the creation of numerous icons and frescoes, which gained wide recognition. Zahari Zograf is also regarded as the founder of Bulgarian secular painting, as he extensively incorporated portraits of contemporaries and scenes from everyday life into his works. Throughout his career, he was associated with the Samokov artistic school, where he developed his skills. Zahari Zograf passed away on June 14, 1853, in his hometown of Samokov, leaving a significant legacy in Bulgarian art and culture.
