Yuan Mei
Yuan Mei (1716–1797) was a Chinese poet, scholar, writer, and artist of the Qing Empire. Born in Hangzhou and died in Nanjing, he authored the collection "New Records of Qi Se" with around a thousand tales of wonders and the treatise "Words on Poetry from the Garden of Delight."

Yuan Mei (1716 – January 3, 1797) was born in Hangzhou during the Qing Empire. He was a Chinese poet, scholar, writer, and artist. Besides these roles, Yuan Mei also practiced calligraphy and was a politician, as well as a ci lyricist. He is the author of the famous collection "New Records of Qi Se, or What Confucius Did Not Speak Of," which contains about a thousand bisezhi genre stories detailing wonders and supernatural events. Additionally, he wrote the treatise "Words on Poetry from the Garden of Delight." Yuan Mei died in Nanjing in 1797.
