Yoshitomo Nara

Biography

Yoshitomo Nara was born on December 5, 1959, in Hirosaki, Japan. He is a contemporary Japanese artist whose practice spans multiple disciplines including portraiture, sculpture, photography, and music. In addition to his work as a painter, Nara is also an illustrator, art practitioner, architectural draftsman, art educator, printmaker, installation artist, and draftsman. His artistic output is primarily associated with Pop Art and the aesthetics of the Superflat movement. Throughout his career, Nara has developed a diverse creative practice that contributes to contemporary Japanese art. He currently lives and works in Tokyo, continuing to advance his artistic work and practice.
