Wilhelm Ostwald
Wilhelm Friedrich Ostwald (1853–1932) was a Russian and German physical chemist, philosopher, inventor, and university lecturer. He was awarded the 1909 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, recognized for developing the Ostwald process.
Biography
Wilhelm Friedrich Ostwald was born on August 21, 1853, in Riga, Livland Governorate, Russian Empire. He was a physical chemist, philosopher, inventor, university lecturer, as well as a writer, Esperantist, and Idist. Throughout his life, Ostwald made significant contributions to science, developing notable works such as the Ostwald process, Ostwald dilution law, Ostwald's rule of stages, recondensation, and energetism. He was connected to the cultures of the Livland Governorate, the Russian Empire, and Germany. For his scientific achievements, Ostwald was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1909. He died on April 4, 1932, in Grosboten.
