Wang Yun-wu
Wang Yun-wu (1888–1979) was a Chinese linguist, politician, and artist known for inventing the Four Corner Method of Chinese lexicography. He lived through the Qing Empire, the Republic of China, and the Taiwan era.
Biography
Wang Yun-wu was born on July 9, 1888, in Shanghai. Throughout his life, he was engaged as a linguist, politician, and artist, focusing on history and political science. Wang played a significant role in the development of Chinese lexicography by inventing the Shi Jiao Hao Ma method, also known as the Four Corner Method, used for classifying Chinese characters. His lifetime spanned the Qing Empire, the Republic of China, and the period of the Republic of China in Taiwan. He passed away on August 14, 1979, in Taipei.
