Wäinö Aaltonen
Wäinö Valdemar Aaltonen (1894–1966) was a Finnish sculptor and painter born in Karinainen. He created monuments, busts, reliefs, medals, landscape drawings, and oil paintings. Aaltonen worked in the styles of modernism and portraiture and died in Helsinki.
Biography
Wäinö Valdemar Aaltonen was born on March 8, 1894, in Karinainen, Finland, then part of the Grand Duchy of Finland. He was a Finnish sculptor and painter working primarily in the genres of modernism and portraiture. Aaltonen gained recognition for his monuments and busts, as well as reliefs, medals, landscape drawings, and oil paintings. In addition to his sculptural work, he was also active as a photographer and a figure in the visual arts. Among his notable works are "Lily" and "Kun ystävyyssuhteet solmitaan." Wäinö Valdemar Aaltonen passed away on May 30, 1966, in Helsinki.
