Biography

Vitold Kaetanovich Byalynitsky-Birulya was born on January 31, 1872, in Krynki. He was a Russian, Soviet, and Belarusian artist specializing in landscapes. Byalynitsky-Birulya earned the title of People's Artist of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1944 and of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 1947. In 1947, he also became a full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. The artist was a member of the Society for Travelling Art Exhibitions, the Union of Russian Artists, and the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AHRR). His work advanced the traditions of the Russian lyrical landscape painting of the late 19th century, working within the genre of landscape and the realism movement. Vitold Kaetanovich passed away on June 18, 1957, in Moscow. Throughout his life, he was connected with the cultural milieu of both the Russian Empire and the USSR and left a notable mark in the history of Russian and Soviet art.
