Biography
Vincent Hložník was born on October 22, 1919, in Svederník. He was one of the significant representatives of Slovak visual arts belonging to the generation of artists shaped by the Second World War. Hložník was a painter, graphic artist, illustrator, sculptor, and educator. His work is characterized by traits of Expressionism. Throughout his life, Hložník engaged in several professions: he worked as an artist, graphic artist, illustrator, sculptor, postage stamp designer, as well as a pedagogue, teacher, and university lecturer. Vincent Hložník had cultural ties to both Czechoslovakia and Slovakia. He passed away on December 10, 1997, in Bratislava. Vincent Hložník was the brother of Ferdinand Hložník.
