Victor Vasarely
Victor Vasarely (born Győző Vásárhelyi) was a French artist of Hungarian origin, known for his work in graphics, sculpture, and design. Born in 1906 in Pécs, Hungary, he became a leading figure in Op Art and Pop Art. He died in Paris in 1997.
Biography
Victor Vasarely, born Győző Vásárhelyi on April 9, 1906, in Pécs, Hungary, was a French artist, graphic designer, and sculptor of Hungarian descent. Throughout his life, Vasarely engaged in various visual arts disciplines, including graphic design, sculpture, and design. He was associated with several artistic movements, most notably Op Art and Pop Art, as well as abstraction and kinetic art. His cultural and national identity spanned Hungary and France, where he spent much of his life and passed away. Victor Vasarely died on March 15, 1997, in Paris. He also raised a son, Jean-Pierre Iváraly, who became an artist. Vasarely contributed significantly to the development of contemporary visual arts by combining the study of optical effects with the creation of dynamic compositions and graphic forms.
