Vezhdi Rashidov

Vezhdi Letifovich Rashidov, born December 14, 1951, in Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria, is a Bulgarian sculptor and artist. He served as Minister of Culture in the governments of Boyko Borissov between 2009–2013 and 2014–2017 and has held multiple terms as a member of the National Assembly.

Biography

Vezhdi Letifovich Rashidov was born on December 14, 1951, in the city of Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria. He is a notable Bulgarian sculptor and artist. Beyond his artistic career, Rashidov has been actively involved in political life. He served as Minister of Culture in the first (2009–2013) and second (2014–2017) governments of Boyko Borissov. As a people's representative, he was a deputy in the XLI, XLII, XLIII, XLIV, XLV, and XLVIII National Assemblies of Bulgaria, and he opened the XLVIII National Assembly as the eldest of the elected deputies. On October 21, 2022, he was elected Speaker of the National Assembly following unsuccessful attempts to elect a speaker on October 19 and 20. Since 2004, Rashidov has been a corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).
