Vera Mukhina

Biography

Vera Ignatyevna Mukhina was born on June 19, 1889, in Riga. She was a sculptor, costume designer, fashion designer, textile artist, theatrical designer, and educator. Primarily working in Moscow, she became known as one of the leading figures in Soviet art. Mukhina was initially a follower of the Moscow Cubists circle and later became an ideologist of Socialist Realism. Among her most notable works are the monumental sculpture "Worker and Kolkhoz Woman" and the monument to Tchaikovsky in Moscow. Vera Ignatyevna was among the first full members of the USSR Academy of Arts. In 1943, she was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR and was a laureate of five Stalin Prizes. She passed away on October 6, 1953, in Moscow. Vera Mukhina was married to Alexey Zamkov, a physician therapist. Throughout her creative career, she combined various art forms, including sculpture and theatrical design, reflecting the multifaceted nature of her talent.
