Vasyl Lopata
Vasyl Ivanovych Lopata (1941–2025) was a Ukrainian artist, writer, illustrator, and graphic artist. Named People's Artist of Ukraine in 2001, he was an active figure in the cultural communities of Ukraine and the USSR.
Biography
Vasyl Ivanovych Lopata was born on April 28, 1941, in the village of Nova Basan. He was a painter, graphic artist, illustrator, prose writer, and art figure. His creative work was closely connected with Ukraine and the USSR, whose cultural communities he actively represented. In 2001, Lopata received the title of People's Artist of Ukraine. Throughout his life, he completed significant works and contributed to the development of Ukrainian art. Vasyl Ivanovych passed away on September 18, 2025, in San Francisco. His creative legacy remains an integral part of the artistic and cultural space of Ukraine and the former USSR.
