Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov (1844–1927) was a Russian painter and representative of realism, known for historical, landscape, and genre paintings. He was an academician, professor of the Imperial Academy of Arts, and a member of the Peredvizhniki movement.

Biography
Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov was born on June 1, 1844, in Saint Petersburg. He was a Russian painter, considered one of the most significant artists of the post-reform era, as well as an educator. Polenov was a master of historical, landscape, and genre painting and a pioneer in plein air painting techniques. His works belong to the realism movement. Vasily Dmitrievich was an academician, professor, and full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts, as well as a member of the Peredvizhniki society. Living through the periods of the Russian Empire, the Russian Republic, RSFSR, and USSR, he left a notable mark on art. In 1926, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR. Polenov passed away on July 18, 1927, in Polenovo.
