Trịnh Công Sơn
Trịnh Công Sơn (1939–2001) was a Vietnamese musician, composer, singer, songwriter, poet, writer, and artist. His work explored themes of love, loss, and anti-war sentiment during the Vietnam War era. He remains a significant figure in 20th-century Vietnamese music.
Biography
Trịnh Công Sơn was born on February 28, 1939, in Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak province, Vietnam. He was a distinguished Vietnamese musician, composer, singer, songwriter, poet, writer, and artist. His creative output spanned the main genres characteristic of the period from 1954 to 1975. Trịnh Công Sơn's music explores themes of love, loss, as well as anti-war sentiments that reflected the events of the Vietnam War. His works received mixed reactions and were subject to censorship from both South Vietnam and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Trịnh Công Sơn died on April 1, 2001, in Ho Chi Minh City. His work significantly influenced numerous performers, including Khánh Ly, Hồng Nhung, Trinh Vinh Trinh, and foreign artists such as Tuan Ngoc, Le Quyen, Le Thu, and Ngoc Lan. He is considered one of the most important Vietnamese songwriters of the 20th century.
