Tamar Abakelia

Biography

Tamar Grigoryevna Abakelia was born on August 19, 1905, in the city of Khoni. She was a distinguished Georgian Soviet sculptor, theatrical artist, graphic artist, and stage designer. Throughout her creative career, Abakelia engaged in multiple forms of artistic activity, including sculpture, graphic art, theatrical design, scenography, as well as costume and set decoration work. In 1942, she was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of the Georgian SSR, recognizing her contribution to the development of the arts in the region. Abakelia lived and worked during a period spanning the late Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. She passed away on May 14, 1953, in Tbilisi, leaving a significant legacy in Soviet and Georgian art. Her work encompassed a broad range of disciplines within painting and scenography, marking her as an important figure in the history of Soviet art.
