Tahia Halim

Tahia Halim was an Egyptian artist born in Sudan in 1919. She became one of the pioneers of modern expressionism in Egyptian art during the 1960s, often depicting Nubian culture in her works.

Biography

Tahia Mohammed Halim was born on September 9, 1919, in Sudan. She was an Egyptian artist and one of the earliest representatives of modern expressionism in Egyptian art during the 1960s. In her work, Halim focused especially on portraying characteristics of the Egyptian spirit. She frequently explored themes related to Nubian culture, the Nile, boats, as well as popular and national subjects. Tahia Halim received several honorary awards both in Egypt and abroad. She passed away on May 24, 2003, in Egypt.
