Suzanne Valadon

Biography

Suzanne Valadon was born on September 23, 1865, in Bessins-sur-Gartempe, France. She is known as a French artist and became the first woman admitted to the French Artists' Union in 1894. Valadon was also a model, artist's muse, and the mother of painter Maurice Utrillo. As an artist, she worked across various genres, including still life, portrait, nude, and landscape. Her work is associated with post-impressionism and symbolism movements. Suzanne Valadon was a draftsman, printmaker, and an active figure in the French art scene. Among her notable works are 'Casting the Net' and 'The Blue Room.' She died on April 7, 1938, in Paris's 16th arrondissement.
