Biography

Ștefan Luchian was born on February 1, 1868, in the town of Ștefănești. He was a Romanian painter whose artistic output was diverse, encompassing various styles such as Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Modernism, and Symbolism. Luchian primarily worked in the portrait genre, a focus that underscores his importance in Romanian art. In addition to oil painting, he practiced watercolor and pastel techniques, demonstrating a broad artistic range. He lived and created his work in Romania until his death in Bucharest in 1916, leaving a significant mark on the culture of his country.
