Stass Paraskos
Stass Paraskos (1933–2014) was a Cypriot artist and educator. He moved to the UK in 1953 to study at Leeds College of Art. His 1966 exhibition Lovers and Romances led to a legal case concerning obscenity. He taught in art schools in the UK and Cyprus and founded what became the Cyprus College of Art.
Biography
Stass Paraskos was born on March 17, 1933, in Anafotida, Cyprus. In 1953, he relocated to the United Kingdom where he studied at Leeds College of Art. In 1966, his exhibition titled Lovers and Romances attracted public attention and resulted in a legal case on charges of obscenity under the Vagrancy Act of 1838. Following this event, Paraskos taught at several art schools in both the United Kingdom and Cyprus. Additionally, he founded an institution that later became known as the Cyprus College of Art, serving as its director. Stass Paraskos passed away on March 4, 2014, in Paphos, Cyprus.
