Silpa Bhirasri

Silpa Bhirasri (1892–1962) was an Italian-Thai sculptor, university professor, medalist, and art critic. He is recognized as the founder of modern art in Thailand and established the art school that later became Silpakorn University.

Biography

Silpa Bhirasri was born on September 15, 1892, in Florence, Italy. His professional activities spanned Italy, the Kingdom of Italy, and Thailand. As a sculptor, university professor, medalist, and art critic, he made a significant contribution to the development of art. Silpa Bhirasri founded an art school that later evolved into Silpakorn University. His contributions to the culture and education of Thailand remain significant and acknowledged. He passed away on May 14, 1962, in Siriraj.
