Signe Kivi

Signe Kivi is an Estonian textile artist and political figure born on February 24, 1957, in Tallinn. She has served as Minister of Culture, rector of the Estonian Academy of Arts, director of the Tartu Art Museum, and is a current member of the Estonian Riigikogu.

Biography

Signe Kivi was born on February 24, 1957, in Tallinn, Estonia. She is known as a textile artist as well as a political and public figure. Kivi was a member of the Congress of Estonia from 1990 to 1992, and served as Minister of Culture from 1999 to 2002. Between 2003 and 2005, she was a member of the IX and X sessions of the Estonian Riigikogu. From 1997 to 2000, she worked as a professor, and from 2005 to 2015, she served as rector of the Estonian Academy of Arts. From 2017 to 2019, she was the director of the Tartu Art Museum. Since 2019, she has been an active member of the XIV session of the Estonian Riigikogu. She is a member of the Estonian Reform Party. Kivi has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Lion of Finland (2001), the 4th Class Order of the White Star (2004), Commander of the Portuguese Order of Merit (2006), and Commander of the Belgian Order of the Crown (2008).
