Seund Ja Rhee

Seund Ja Rhee (1918–2009) was a South Korean artist, printmaker, industrial designer, and illustrator. She created over 1000 paintings, 700 prints, 250 ceramics, and numerous drawings. From 1958, she lived in France, where she built a large studio and exhibition hall called 'Milky Way'.

Biography

Seund Ja Rhee was born on June 3, 1918, in the city of Jinju, Republic of Korea. She was an artist, printmaker, industrial designer, and illustrator, who also created tapestries and mosaics. Throughout her career, she produced more than 1000 paintings, 700 prints, 250 ceramic works, and numerous drawings. In 1958, she moved to the French town of Tourrettes, where she established a large studio and exhibition hall named 'Milky Way'. Her work was widely exhibited, including 84 solo exhibitions and nearly 300 group exhibitions, primarily in France and South Korea. She died on March 8, 2009, in Paris.
