Sengai Gibon (Japanese: 仙厓義梵) was born in 1750 in Mino, Japan. He was a Japanese Rinzai school Buddhist monk who also engaged in calligraphy and painting. Throughout his life, Sengai combined his spiritual practice with artistic activities. Holding the title of bhikshu, he is known as a significant figure in Japanese culture during the 18th and 19th centuries. Sengai passed away in 1837 in the city of Fukuoka. His life and creativity remain important testaments to Japanese Buddhism and the artistic heritage of that era.
