Sam Francis

Biography

Sam Francis, born Samuel Lewis Francis on June 25, 1923, in San Mateo, USA, was an American painter, graphic artist, and sculptor. He also worked as an illustrator and lithographer. His creative activity was connected to the abstract expressionism movement, within which he created his works. Among his notable works is Untitled (Black Clouds). Francis died on November 4, 1994, in Santa Monica. Throughout his life, he left a significant mark on 20th century art as a representative and active participant of the abstract expressionism artistic movement.
