Biography

Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi, often known as Sadequain Naqqash, was a prominent Pakistani artist, calligrapher, and poet born on June 30, 1923, in Amroha, which was then part of British India. Throughout his life, he produced approximately 15,000 paintings, demonstrating remarkable productivity and versatility in visual arts. In addition to painting, he was known as a poet who composed hundreds of rubaiyat inspired by the styles of Omar Khayyam and Sarmad Kashani, highlighting his literary mastery. Sadequain gained recognition as one of Pakistan's foremost calligraphers, blending traditional art with modern forms of expression. He is the only artist in Pakistan to have received all four of the country's civilian awards: Nishan-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, and Pride of Performance. He died on February 10, 1987, in Karachi, leaving a significant legacy in both Pakistani and global art.
