Biography

S. H. Raza, whose full name is Hayat Hyder Raza, was born on February 22, 1922, in Mandla. He is regarded as a distinguished Indian modernist and expressionist painter, especially recognized for his watercolor works. Throughout his life, Raza was engaged in various activities within the field of art, establishing himself as an artist, cultural figure, and creator. His artistic development occurred against the backdrop of significant historical changes, spanning the eras of British India and the Indian Union. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he was awarded several prestigious Indian honors: the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. S. H. Raza passed away on July 23, 2016, in Delhi. His contribution to the development of Indian modernist art is acknowledged as a significant chapter in the history of Indian art.
