Biography

Rufino del Carmen Arellanes Tamayo was born on August 26, 1899, in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. He became one of the prominent representatives of Mexican modernism and muralism. Throughout his creative life, Tamayo worked as a painter, printmaker, and sculptor. His works reflect modernist tendencies and Mexican cultural identity. Among the artist's notable works is the painting "Fumador." Rufino Tamayo spent most of his life in Mexico and passed away on June 24, 1990, in Mexico City. His art holds a significant place in the history of 20th-century Mexican art.
