Rudolf Frentz

Rudolf Rudolfovich Frentz (1888–1956) was a Russian painter and graphic artist of the Soviet period. He worked in Saint Petersburg–Leningrad and was a professor and head of the battle painting workshop at the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, as well as a professor at the Leningrad Higher School of Industrial Art named after V. I. Mukhina.

Biography

Rudolf Rudolfovich Frentz was born on July 23, 1888, in Marienburg. He was a Russian painter and graphic artist active during the Soviet period, working primarily in Saint Petersburg–Leningrad. Frentz was the son of the painter Rudolf Ferdinandovich Frentz. Throughout his career, he held the positions of professor and head of the battle painting workshop at the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (formerly the Imperial Academy of Arts), as well as a professor at the Leningrad Higher School of Industrial Art named after V. I. Mukhina. Besides his work as an artist, he was also a teacher. Rudolf Rudolfovich Frentz was a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists. The principal genre of his work was portraiture, and he worked within the framework of realism. He was part of the cultural and national communities of the Russian Empire and the USSR. Among his well-known works is the painting "Amazonka". Rudolf Rudolfovich Frentz passed away on December 27, 1956, in Saint Petersburg.
