Roberto Matta
Roberto Sebastián Matta (1911–2002) was a Chilean surrealist artist, architect, sculptor, and graphic artist. Born in Santiago, he worked in France and was a friend of Salvador Dalí. Matta was a leading figure in the Latin American avant-garde art movement.

Roberto Sebastián Matta Echaurren was born on November 11, 1911, in Santiago. He was a Chilean surrealist artist, architect, sculptor, designer, printmaker, lithographer, and graphic artist. Matta maintained a close friendship and ideological kinship with Salvador Dalí. His artistic career was closely linked with the Surrealist movement and the genre of abstractionism. Throughout his life, Matta had cultural ties both with Chile and France. He passed away on November 23, 2002, in Civitavecchia. Roberto Sebastián Matta is recognized as a leader of the Latin American avant-garde and for his contributions to the visual arts.
