Rita Angus (born Henrietta Catherine Angus) was a New Zealand artist born on March 12, 1908, in Hastings. Known for portraits and landscapes, she worked mainly in oil and watercolor. She passed away on January 25, 1970, in Wellington.

Rita Angus, born Henrietta Catherine Angus on March 12, 1908, in Hastings, New Zealand, was an accomplished artist known for her portraits and landscapes, predominantly executed in oil and watercolor. Early in her career, she was also known as Rita Cook. In addition to painting, Angus worked with printmaking and was actively involved in New Zealand's artistic movement. Over time, she became one of the leading figures in twentieth-century New Zealand art alongside Colin McCahon and Toss Woollaston. Her work and career were rooted in her New Zealand national and cultural identity. Rita Angus passed away on January 25, 1970, in Wellington. Throughout her life, she was recognized as an artist, arts practitioner, and printmaker.
