Ramón Torres Méndez was born on August 29, 1809, in Bogotá, Colombia. He became one of the notable 19th-century painters and graphic artists in his country. Torres Méndez specialized in miniature portraits, genre painting, and portraiture. In his creative work, he was a vivid representative of the costumbrismo tradition, an artistic movement depicting local customs and everyday life. Besides his work as a painter, Ramón also distinguished himself as a caricaturist and lithographer, making a significant contribution as a cultural figure. He lived his entire life in Bogotá, where he passed away on December 16, 1885.
