Throughout his career, spanning the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century, Varma devoted himself mainly to painting, specializing in portraiture. His artistic style and subjects reflect his cultural connection to Travancore. Raja Ravi Varma passed away on October 2, 1906, in Attingal.
