Rafał Malczewski (1892–1965) was a Polish painter, draftsman, author, and publicist known for landscapes and portraits. An active mountaineer and skier, he promoted the Tatra Mountains, integrating his art and literary work with this mountainous region.
Biography
Rafał Marceli Ludwik Fortunat Józef Malczewski was born on October 24, 1892, in Kraków, Poland. He was a Polish artist specializing in landscapes and portraits, as well as a draftsman, author, and publicist. Malczewski was closely connected to the Tatra Mountains: he was an active mountaineer, skier, and promoter of this mountain region. His work encompassed not only painting but also literary creation and journalism. Malczewski died on February 15, 1965, in Montreal. His contribution spans the Polish cultural space of the first half of the twentieth century and is closely linked to the nature and mountains of Poland.
