Pyotr Sokolov
Pyotr Fyodorovich Sokolov (1787–August 15, 1848) was a Russian portrait painter and graphic artist, recognized as a leading watercolorist of the Nikolaev era in Saint Petersburg. Born in Moscow, he died in Stary Merchik and was an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
Biography
Pyotr Fyodorovich Sokolov was born in 1787 in Moscow. He was a Russian portrait painter and graphic artist who worked primarily in portraiture. Sokolov was a follower of Romanticism and regarded as one of the main watercolor artists in Saint Petersburg during the Nikolaev era. He was related to the Bryullov family and was the father of the brothers Pyotr, Pavel, and Alexander Sokolov. Throughout his career, Pyotr Fyodorovich earned the title of academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. He passed away on August 15, 1848, in Stary Merchik. His nationality was Russian Empire.
